Ladies, Our Hair Thins Too! How Hair Growth Serum Helps

It’s not something we talk about as openly as men, but our hair thins too. Whether your hair’s naturally thin or thick and full, fluctuating hormones, stress, and unintentionally unhealthy habits can lead to shedding, receding, and bald spots. I say this from experience, as my hairline began to recede around the age of 50. As a Master Esthetician with over 25 years of experience, I knew exactly what to do.

What Are Hair Growth Serums?

The health and cosmetic industry are finally recognizing the scalp as the one place on the body we fail to treat. As such, scalp treatments are one of the fastest-growing haircare product lines. Beyond shampoo to cleanse our hair and scalp, and hair conditioner, the scalp requires exfoliation, detoxification, nourishment, and hydration.

Hair serums work similarly to facial serums. They’re lightweight formulations are packed full of regenerative nutrients. Unlike facial serums, they don’t just penetrate the pores, they’re designed to target hair follicles.

Identifying Why Your Hair Isn’t Growing

If your hair’s not growing, something has prompted your hair follicles to go into “resting phase”. So, the first step is identifying the cause of your shedding, receding, or balding. If you’re near or over 50, it may be your body’s natural decline of estrogen. Estrogen’s role in the body goes far beyond menstruation. If your skin is dehydrated, your go-to facial exfoliation methods are no longer working, or your hair is thinning—estrogen may be the cause.

There’s no need to try to determine the cause of your hair loss alone. Schedule an appointment with a dermatologist or trichologist (hair loss and regrowth specialist) to accurately identify the root cause.

Top Causes of Hair Loss in Women

  • Fluctuating Hormones: Fluctuating hormones cause hair loss in both men and women. As women, we’re most likely to experience shedding postpartum, during perimenopause, and in menopause.

  • Physical Stress: Chronic stress activates our body’s fight-or-flight response. This boosts stress hormones, which can trigger our hair follicles to underperform or stop growing.

  • Scalp Stress: The weight of weave or hair extensions, trauma of tight hair styles, distress of repetitive parts or hairstyles, and misusing hair products and styling tools can damage the scalp and hair follicles.

  • Nutrition: Eating a diet low in hair-healthy nutrients combined with external oxidative stressors degrades hair and scalp health. Hair healthy supplements, including Nutrafol and biotin, support regrowth from the inside out.

  • Lifestyle: Hobbies, sports gear, and professional accessories may cause scalp and hair stress. For example, wearing a hat, helmet, or headset frequently may contribute to balding.

  • Genetics: Hair loss can be hereditary. So, ask the women in your family what age and circumstances triggered thinning so you can take a proactive approach.

  • Medically Activated: Shedding and baldness are side effects of many medical treatments and health conditions. This includes alopecia, chemotherapy, scalp psoriasis, and some prescription medications.

Healthy Hair Follicles, Healthy Hair

Hair Thickening Serum

NeoGenesis Hair Serum is the only growth serum I use on my hairline and scalp. NeoGenesis is a premium skincare brand, best known for its S2RM® topical stem cell technology. Their formulations are the only products I’ve tested that effectively awaken the body’s natural regenerative capabilities in a manner comparable to stem cell injections.

Formulated with 60% of their patented S3RM® stem cell technology and scalp-healthy ingredients, this serum has a high success rate for renormalizing hair follicles. It’s effective for all skin types and hair types.

Consistency Is Key

Like your skincare products, consistent application is required to revitalize your follicles. The serum needs to be applied to a damp scalp. Without a bit of water, the serum will absorb into your hair shaft instead of your follicles. Unlike many hair growth products, they are not oil-based. The formulation is smooth and light, won’t weigh your hair down, leave you greasy, or make your skin or scalp break out.

Expect initial results within 2 months, with maximum results closer to 6 months. If this serum doesn’t show progress within 2 months, it’s not the right growth stimulation solution for you.

How to Use:

For receding hairline and bald patches: Wet your skin or scalp, then apply about 3 drops and massage it into your hairline or bald patch. Style as usual. Apply twice daily.

For shedding, thinning, and balding: Wet your fingers and massage water into your scalp. Or apply after wetting your hair in the shower. Apply 6 drops to your fingers, rub your fingers together, and massage into your scalp. Style as usual. Apply twice daily.

Combine With Microneedling to Accelerate Regrowth

The longer your hair follicles have been in resting phase, the more you’ll need to motivate your body’s natural healing response. I’d let my hairline gradually recede for a few years before testing this hair growth serum. I found maximum regrowth by combining NeoGenesis with microneedling.

I use a professional microneedling device at .75mm of depth once a month on myself and clients. This is deep enough for the thinner skin of the hairline. Even if you have a derma roller that you use on your face, I suggest going to a professional for microneedling. Especially since microneedling of any kind is tricky in areas where you have hair. I use a topical saline solution for optimal slip and glide and follow up with LED and NeoGenesis serum. Watch my full video of this treatment here

Microneedle once a month for 6 months and apply your serum twice daily for maximum regrowth.

Not Just For Hair Loss

NeoLash

The hair on your scalp isn’t the only area you may experience a loss in hair density, which is why NeoGenesis also formulated regenerative Brow Serum and Lash Serum. The brow serum sweeps on like brow gel, and the lash serum is applied to the upper and lower lids like eyeliner. Neither irritates the skin, eye, or iris. All 3 hair growth-stimulating serums are oncology approved.

You can use this hair serum even if you aren’t experiencing thinning or shedding to:

  • Promote faster hair growth

  • Increase thickness and volume

  • Make hair more manageable

  • Improve hair health, luster, and shine

  • Restore natural hair color

  •  As a proactive approach to hair loss
