First, let's look at what causes them so we can prevent them, and take steps so we don't make them worse. They can form through physical abuse of the skin (think squeezing a pimple too hard or aggressive scrubbing), to excessive heat on the skin such as using hot water instead of lukewarm water to cleanse, to eating spicy foods that increase body temperature causing flushing or as in the case with drinking alcohol, cause the small blood vessels in the skin to widen and appear closer to the surface of the skin.
You have a few options for treating and dimensioning broken capillaries. For severely broken blood vessels (capillaries), you'll need a Pro practitioner trained in using advanced technology. I like the ThermoClear ($5,900 Pro Machine) RF device. You can also get Laser or IPL treatments, but the latter will be painful. Do your due diligence to choose an experienced professional to avoid making matters worse. Ask for proof of training, licensing, references and verified before and after images.
The next requires using high-performance skincare containing ingredients that will thicken the skin making broken capillaries less visible. As skin thins from aging, collagen decreases making skin look thinner and more opaque. Products that will rebuild the skin, like NeoGenesis, or products containing collagen-boosters like PLLA (HOP), vitamin C, and a gentle retinol, are my go-to skin thickening choices.
A good routine for broken capillaries at home would look like this. In addition to the preventative steps above, apply NeoGenesis Recovery faithfully twice daily to restore skin to a healthier state. Plan on 8 - 10 weeks of use to see substantial results. Longer for more damaged skin.
Use Triple C + Gold twice daily to boost the effectiveness of your collagen-boosting products containing PLLA (CaviPLLA Multi-Serum + PLLA Cell Repair Moisturizer). Apply them prior to applying a moisturizer.
Eat plenty of foods with high vitamin K such as green leafy vegetables like kale, collard greens, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, and lettuce.
Use red LED to break up the pooling effect. This will require using Red LED 10 minutes daily consistently for at least 12 weeks, but I have seen this collapse and reabsorb the smaller broken capillaries.
If your cheeks flush, use the Anma with a gentle sweeping movement (from the nose out to the ears) to break up blood pooling and drain lymph in this area.
As with all skincare practices, consistency is key. To gauge your progress, take a before picture, and after pictures weekly to motivate you to stick with it.
