They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Not only can they show your inner self, but they can also be one of the quickest indicators of outward aging. Have you ever had a bad night's sleep only to wake up and see it reflected in the skin around your eyes? As you get older, have you noticed that these indicators of health and age only become more obvious? Not to worry, though! I have an arsenal of anti- aging tips for the eyes, including my top two devices to help you protect the skin around your eyes and increase its overall resiliency.
Skin may be the largest organ of the body, but it is more nuanced than you may think. Your face, in particular, can have many different textures and attributes. The skin around your eyes is the most sensitive because of its thinness and capacity to stretch.
This skin, called the periocular skin, is especially delicate and contains less sebaceous glands than the rest of your face. It's also easily stretched, because it's not attached as tightly to the face's muscles, but instead provides room for the tiny fat pads that protect the eyeballs.
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity. That means that as it stretches more, it loses its ability to bounce back to the same place, leading to concerns such as eye bags, undereye wrinkles, and crow's feet. This unique area requires special care to manage and can feel overwhelming at times. To save you from feeling lost in the maze of products and devices, I want to give you my top two device recommendations — along with the best pairing products to get the most out of each treatment.
The MBK Eye Rejuvenator is a microcurrent device specifically for the skin around your eyes and on your lips. This device works by delivering a targeted 300 amperes of microcurrent, so that there is no possibility of overworking these sensitive areas. The targeted microcurrent helps increase blood flow and trigger increased collagen production to reduce the appearance of saggy eyelids, undereye bags, and crow's feet. Additionally it really excels on improving the look of hollow eyes.
Pro Tip for the Eye Rejuvenator: Use this device with a water-based serum like the NeoGenesis Eye Serum. The hydrating texture of this serum not only helps to increase the overall effect of the device, it protects your skin by dampening the heat of the current.
The second device recommendation I have for you is the Skin Wand Pro. This device uses nano-channeling — which may sound like microneedling, but its silicone tip doesn't penetrate as deeply, getting precisely 0.15 millimeters into the skin. Research has found that this is the precise depth to create controlled inflammation that will trigger collagen production and skin tightening in the targeted areas. It also helps to push the products you previously applied deeper into the skin.
I recommend using the Skin Wand Pro with the Hevatox Gold Ampoule. I walk you through its use in this video to help you incorporate it into your routine. You can also use a water-based serum like the one mentioned above, the NeoGenesis Eye Serum, to help calm the skin and initiate quick healing and reaction to the treatment.
Yes, treatment with these devices can help the skin around your eyes and the rest of your face look and feel rejuvenated. That's the good news. The even better news is this isn't all you can do to keep your skin feeling fresh!
The use of daily products as part of an essential routine always helps. Finding the right cream is crucial to keep this area moisturized, which is especially important for the skin around your eyes! I recommend looking out for seven primary ingredients in an eye cream, including hesperidin methyl chalcone and dipeptide-2. Both of these decrease the amount of puffiness around the eyes and therefore the appearance of bags. Some of my favorite creams for your eyes are the House of PLLA Eye and Lip Cream and the Dr. Esthe Retinol Eye Cream.
Another daily product for your skin is, of course, sunscreen. I know we have likely all heard this one time and again, but there's a good reason for that! Using facial sunscreen will protect the most sensitive skin around your eyes from the sun's damaging rays. Some of my favorite sunscreens include the House of PLLA Multi-Protection Face and Body Cream and the Dr Esthe Sun Protection Cream SPF 50.
You can also apply massage techniques on your face to get the fascia to release and reactivate the tired muscles around your eyes. I recommend using your face's vectors to work with your facial muscles and lift strategic parts of your face. This is a quick 'fix' you can use when you need a pick-me-up in the middle of the day or before going out at night!
I know that even with devices and product recommendations, your skincare journey can sometimes feel like an overwhelming one. Trying to keep our skin healthy and glowing is a lifelong process. It protects us, shields us, and defines us in a lot of ways! But every layer of the skin acts as our armor in a different way. On the very top, we all have a "skin barrier" that requires its own care for long-term health.
