Eye cream is a necessary step in our skincare routine and using a high performance serum and cream works wonders on the outer layers of the skin. BUT if you're using an eye serum or cream and you're NOT doing this step, you aren't doing all that you can do for antiaging in the eye area.
What am I talking about? I'm talking about fascia release. Fascia is like a net within the structure of skin. When you look in the mirror and see fine lines and wrinkles, it's because fascia is stuck in those areas. It gets that way from repeated facial expressions (smile lines), sleeping on a pillow that scrunches up the face, squinting the eyes, and so forth.
The image below shows the structure of the skin. Notice the layer of fascia near subcutaneous fat and muscle. The goal of a fascia release is to free up this part of the skin to relax the crevices that show up on the face as wrinkles. From fine lines to deep wrinkles - fascia release is necessary for a complete eye treatment.
Fascia release can be done by using a gua sha tool to gently stimulate release. My favorite gua sha device is the Anma. Using very light sweeping movements where fascia is stuck helps release it. Also using a gentle static hold similar to what is used in acupressure will help with the release. Fascia release can also be done manually using the right techniques with massage.
These are some of the magic tricks a masterful esthetician will perform during your facial. You can do them at home too!
In many of my YouTube videos I demonstrate these movements. Check out these videos to learn how to give yourself a fascia release treatment.

Trying to keep our skin healthy and glowing is a lifelong process. It protects us, shields us, and defines us in a lot of ways! But every layer of the skin acts as our armor in a different way. On the very top, we all have a "skin barrier" that requires its own care for long-term health.
