Skin is Your First Line of Defense Against Disease

Skin is Your First Line of Defense Against Disease

The importance of keeping your hands in healthy shape goes far beyond just looking good. We know that practicing good hygiene, eating well, exercising, and getting enough sleep is vital to a healthy immune system.

Here’s how skin affects your immune system!

Let’s examine what the skin does for us in terms of our overall health. Our skin is only a few millimeters thick, but it is by far the largest organ in the body and part of a larger system, called the Integumentary System. This system protects us as our first line of defense against germs and infections in the environment and all around us, as well as regulates our temperature, protects us against UV rays, prevents dehydration and allows the elimination of waste through the pores.

When we are stressed for long periods of time, our Cortisol increases to deal with the stress. This is referred to as “the fight or flight” response. When this happens, our systems that normally heal and repair our skin shut down.  The body’s energy goes to “fight the enemy”. This takes a dramatic toll on the health of our skin as precious resources are taken from the skin and given over to other organs for survival.

Many skin issues arise during times of stress and pressure. When our skin breaks down, toxins may enter more easily into the body, causing increased inflammation and weakening our immune system.

Keeping the skin strong is vitally important to our ability to stay healthy.

I carry the NeoGenesis line of skincare products because the formulas provide nutrients needed to keep the skin strong and vibrant when used as directed. Using three of these products each time you wash your hands will create a stronger, healthier line of defense against disease – and your hands will look healthy, youthful, and more beautiful than ever!
