Can your pores really shrink? I get this question all the time. The answer is definitive: Kind of. We are born with a natural pore size. As we get older and start producing more oils, pores can appear larger since they are 'full'. Add bacteria that eats the oils and dead cell debris and viola! Your pores look bigger (and most likely some pimples will form).
What's the solution?
Exfoliation. It doesn't have to be extreme. Simple poly hydroxy acids will do. An ingredient to look for is salicylic acid. It's oil loving and sweeps into the follicle and eats up the gunk. You can find salicylic acid in NeoGenesis's Salicylic Acid Gel or the CBE Botanicals Revive Exfoliating Serum.
Can devices help?
In my experience, yes. RF, LED light therapy and Microcurrent all can help the appearance of pores. They will look more refined and taught after about a month of consistent use. Especially as we age, your skin moves around and your pores go with it. It's best to start with LED and see how much that does for their appearance. My favorite in-studio treatment to refine pores is a medium depth peel, pore extractions, the Curve and LED light at the end. (And I add lots of water/gel based hydration as dehydrated skin's pores look very exaggerated.) Perfection! Skin looks fresh, tight and lifted, along with your pores.

Trying to keep our skin healthy and glowing is a lifelong process. It protects us, shields us, and defines us in a lot of ways! But every layer of the skin acts as our armor in a different way. On the very top, we all have a "skin barrier" that requires its own care for long-term health.
