Aging is a beautiful thing — but unfortunately, it often takes a toll on your skin. One of the places where we show our age the most is in our necks. Many of my clients focus on fine lines around their eyes and facial wrinkles, but don't pay attention to their neck and décolleté until those areas start to sag.
Whether you want to tighten crepey skin, reduce "tech neck" wrinkles, or simply prevent future fine lines, I have some treatments that can help. Here are my top techniques as a licensed master esthetician for treating the neck and décolleté, as well as my must-have gadgets for home use.
Red light therapy is one of the easiest add-ons to any home skincare routine. In addition to generally promoting healthier, younger-looking skin, red light helps boost collagen production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. One of my favorite things about red light therapy is that there is absolutely no discomfort or down time — but in just three 10-minute sessions a week, you can notice a difference.
There are so many great devices on the market, including the wearable Omnilux Contour for Neck and Décolleté. This flexible device is designed to be worn comfortably on your neck and chest, and uses medical-grade LEDs to give you incredible results at home.
Another great red light option is the Glow Younger TriLight LED Device. It's a slightly more affordable option than the Omnilux, and since it's handheld, you can use it on areas other than your neck. I've been using this gadget for years, and I recommend it to many of my esthetics clients. I love that it integrates red, yellow, and infrared lights, so you can target different skin concerns. If you're looking to treat the neck, stick to red or infrared, which can penetrate the skin more deeply for more effective results in that area.
If you're especially bothered by crepey skin under your chin and neck, NeoGenesis Recovery can help target those pesky fine lines. This advanced cellular serum uses S²RM® (70%), antioxidants, peptides, and anti-aging molecules to help your skin look healthier and more radiant. In addition to restoring texture and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Recovery also supports collagen production.
I love recommending NeoGenesis Recovery to my clients because it's safe for daily at-home use. If you use another serum at home, just make sure you layer this one on first for maximum penetration.
One of the reasons our age starts to show in our neck is because we lose muscle volume there — that's what causes saggy neck and loss of jawline definition. If you're looking for a non-injectable way to address these concerns, I highly recommend the HOUSE OF PLLA® HOP+ CAVIPLLA+O2® Multi-Serum. This powerful Korean serum is formulated with caviar extract and peptides to boost firmness and elasticity, while stimulating new collagen production. It also contains hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to help improve skin texture. All of these ingredients can help
to tighten the neck, since PLLA works to reduce wrinkles and plump hollow or sunken areas.
Though super powerful, this serum is gentle enough for daily use. Apply 1-2 pumps and smooth over your neck, waiting until bubbles develop. Allow the serum to oxygenate for a few minutes, then completely rub in. Follow with Promoter Cell Repair Moisturizer and Pilleo Stem Cell Mist from the same line for even better results!
Another way to maximize the CAVIPLLA+O2® Multi-Serum (or any serum!) is by pairing it with a nano channeling device, like the Skin Wand Pro. I love this device for at-home use because it's pretty foolproof, and you only need to incorporate it into your routine a few times a week. And just like red light treatments, you don't have to worry about downtime!
The Skin Wand Pro works by creating microscopically small channels that help introduce serums deeper into the skin, creating a more noticeable result than you'd get with just topical application. This device plumps and hydrates the skin to improve elasticity, so it's a great choice if you're targeting "tech neck" wrinkles or sagging skin.
Radio frequency is another great way to treat wrinkles and sagging skin on the neck and décolleté. The Curve Face and Body's different modes are often used to treat cellulite all over the body, but I also recommend this handheld gadget to clients who want to tighten the skin on their lower face and neck.
The Curve Face and Body uses radio frequency, ultrasound, LED, and biochemical vibrations (yes, all four!) to address problem areas, including loose or saggy skin. For your neck in particular, use the radiofrequency setting, which uses heat to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of wrinkles. At home, you can use it for around 15 minutes a day, 2-3 times a week, and expect to see results in around 10 weeks.
For best results, use this radiofrequency device after you've applied your serums and CBE Botanicals™ Conducting Gel. Move it slowly in upward circles around your neck and décolleté.
Pro Tip: To enhance the effectiveness of your skincare devices, move in lines across sagging areas to lift them rather than dragging them down. I talk more about this "vectors" technique here!
With the right neck skincare products and devices, you can get salon-worthy results in the comfort of home. As with any skincare routine, consistency is key. Find something that works for you and stick to it!
