Did you know that the skincare market around the globe was valued at about $146.7 billion in 2021, and it only continues to grow? That has meant a huge increase in the amount of research being done for the products on the market, with a constant race to create the most effective products that are still safe for consistent usage. One of the results of this push for research is the polymer poly-L-lactic acid, and after today, you will see why I recommend adding it to your skin regimen.
Poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA, is a polymer that has been derived from lactic acid. You may recognize lactic acid from the fitness scene, since it's talked about as the acid that builds up around your muscles and can lead to soreness. Your body produces this chemical naturally as part of the process to allow your cells to break down carbs for energy while you're exerting effort.
You might be wondering what that has to do with skincare! Essentially, because of all the different ways your body utilizes lactic acid, researchers have been looking at this naturally produced chemical to get an idea of its potential usage when applied directly to the body. The polymer PLLA was derived from this research. It started being used in skin-related medical care as a polymer used in dissolvable sutures in the 1950s. Now, it's used in many different applications, one of which is as a topical ingredient in skincare products.
PLLA brings all kinds of benefits to the table when you introduce it into your skincare routine. My favorite aspect of it is its collagen-boosting ability! Over time, the topical use of PLLA builds up in your skin's follicles and gradually increases your body's natural production of collagen. Collagen is the primary component that keeps our skin looking young and healthy. It makes your skin tighter, smoothing wrinkles and bringing up sagging lines in your skin. Overall, it brings a plumper look back into your face.
If you want to see just how PLLA works on your skin, I've created a before and after video to demonstrate its incredible effects. I also have some other exciting products with PLLA as an active ingredient coming up, this time to target your on-the-go skincare needs, so watch this space!
Finding the right products for your skin is most of the battle of developing your skincare routine. There are only so many products we have the time and space for! So you might ask: Do I even need PLLA in my skincare routine?
Well, boosting collagen production is one of the most essential aspects of any anti-aging regimen. That means the answer is an absolute YES for anyone looking to prevent or slow down the signs of aging in the skin without using more invasive treatments.
One of the product lines I recommend comes from the Korean skincare brand House of PLLA. These products work together to encourage all-important collagen production in the skin. Each of their products, such as the PLLA Pro Micro Peel or the Promoter Collagen Gel, also has unique benefits, like hydration or encouraging skin repair.
It's also important for you to know how to combine these products with other highly rated products that might already be in your skincare lineup. One of my absolute top recommendations for skin health and healing is the Neogenesis line. If you have been following me for a while, you have likely already heard me talking about these great products. Keep in mind that layering your products like Neogenesis with PLLA will change the way the products sit on your skin and how your skin absorbs them.
Currently, the House of PLLA from Korea has some of the best products with PLLA as an ingredient currently on the market. While they have an entire range of products to choose from, below are a couple of my favorites.
PLLA is the number one active ingredient in this micro peel. The PLLA Pro Micro Peel has a gentle feeling on the skin, even after you wash it off. It sloughs away a layer of dead skin while revitalizing the underlayer by stimulating collagen production for hours after you remove it. This product comes from a House of PLLA line of products that has been stirring up the world of skincare and aesthetics. If you want to find out more about how this Korean skincare line is making a splash in the industry, I tell you more about it in this video.
While the PLLA Micro Peel is used across your entire face, the Repair Eye and Lip Cream by the same Korean brand specifically targets the sensitive skin around your eyes and on your lips. It uses PLLA to stimulate new collagen production in this area to smooth away fine lines such as crow's feet that develop much earlier than other wrinkles on other areas of your skin. Other ingredients include PDRN, which helps to promote skin repair, four different growth factors to keep the skin healthy, and volufiline, which increases the volume of fatty tissues and acts as a filler over time.
PLLA is simply one amazing ingredient of many that are out there! I understand that it can be overwhelming trying to select the array of products that are going to work best for your skin and suit your budget.
