Hyaluronic acid (HA) has always held a special place in my heart as one of my go-to recommendations, and there's one product that truly stands out: the CBE Botanicals 4D Quench. This remarkable concoction features a potent 4D hyaluronic acid blend with varying molecular weights, offering a multi-dimensional approach to skin care. Its magic extends beyond the surface, diving deep into the epidermis and dermis, where it excels at regeneration, hydration, and the coveted plumping effect. The results are simply astonishing, delivering unparalleled hydration that suits all skin types.
What's even better? HA is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies, which means there are no contraindications for its use. So, let's explore the art of harnessing HA's potential the right way!
Hyaluronic acid is popular for its humectant properties. With its impressive ability to bind 1,000 times its weight in water to the skin, it's a must-have player in your skincare routine. HA also has cosmetic purposes, helping you achieve the highest levels of skin hydration and plumping effects—whether you inject it or use it topically.
But the trick is using hyaluronic the right way so you can enjoy those benefits. And I'm here to share what that right way is!
You know I'd never keep important knowledge from you! So consider these questions.
Did you know HA will have the opposite effect if you apply it to your skin when it's dry? Or that, when combined with certain alpha-hydroxy acids, either product can become ineffective?
There's also a correct order to apply your HA. Can you imagine diminishing all of our efforts with your beautiful skin because of those silly mishaps? Don't worry—I won't let it happen to you. Let's review this valuable information.
Some serums—and injectable fillers—contain HA molecules that are too large to pass through the top layer of the epidermis. However, these larger molecules best hydrate the lipid layer and create that glowing appearance. They need smaller HA molecules to penetrate the epidermis and plump up the skin, resulting in the reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
For optimum results, look for multimolecular products like NeoGenesis. This product contains sodium hyaluronate butyrate, an HA weight that provides optimal penetration beyond the lipid layer. You can use the NeoGenesis Booster Serum twice daily before moisturizing with any of their creams.
It is very important to note how HA works so you get the best results.
We want to apply it to skin damp from a post-cleansing or a hydrating mist—not dry skin.
If you apply it directly to dry skin, it will pull moisture from deep within the skin's layers. This process draws moisture away from the skin, leaving it even more dehydrated.
But when applied to damp skin, the acid will draw from and retain that source of moisture. One way to ensure damp skin before applying HA is by using the NeoGenesis Moisturizing Mist.
Secondly, HA needs to be "sealed in" with something like a moisturizer as quickly as possible. If you use it by itself, it will pull that moisture and then evaporate into the air.
For the best results, you need a water-based moisturizer that contains occlusive ingredients, or ingredients that prevent moisture from leaving the skin.
I love these moisturizers at this step: Neogenesis Barrier Renewal Cream and Dr. Esthé Dual Barrier Cream. They are both ultra-hydrating and will not let that HA escape.
Of course, we don't want to bench our other loved products like vitamins C and A - and we don't have to! You can layer hyaluronic acid with other star player ingredients, but make sure to do so in the correct order.
Remember to adhere to the golden rule in esthetics by applying products from thinnest to thickest consistency. By doing this, we enjoy each product's unique benefits without contraindications.
When using HA in the morning with your favorite vitamin C serum, apply the vitamin C first, wait a minute or two, and then apply your HA serum. This order gives vitamin C a head start in lipid penetration. At night when layering with retinol, apply the retinol serum first and wait ten minutes. Next, spritz your hydrating mist and apply your HA. This is an excellent way to achieve maximum hydration when using retinol products which can otherwise have a drying effect.
HA can give you radiant and hydrated results, thanks to how it bounds water molecules and seals them into the skin. But only if you apply it correctly.
With this guidance, I know you'll love incorporating HA into your routine as much as I do. Want to get more support with your skincare journey? Join me in the Christine Byer Beauty Club. Trying to keep our skin healthy and glowing is a lifelong process. It protects us, shields us, and defines us in a lot of ways! But every layer of the skin acts as our armor in a different way. On the very top, we all have a "skin barrier" that requires its own care for long-term health.
