Glowing Skin Starts Here: Shop Christine’s Must-Have Products For Summer

As we soak up the final weeks of summer, it’s the perfect time to enjoy sun-safe days while embracing lighter makeup, softer coverage, and that effortless, glowing skin vibe. These products and skincare tips below will help you make the most of your late-summer glow-up!

1. EXFOLIATE AND CLEANSE SWEAT AND SUNSCREEN

Your skin can’t glow with dead skin cell buildup. If you’re 40+ and haven’t yet, it’s time to add a chemical exfoliator to your skincare routine. Turnover slows with age, so mechanical exfoliation isn’t enough to remove dead skin cells. Add to that the sweat of active summer days and reapplying sunscreen, and you might feel grimy by the end of the day.

Scrub Away the day

Scrub Away the Day is one of my top picks for polishing skin while removing oil, grime, and makeup. I also use it to prep skin before skincare treatments. This cleanser is a dual chemical and mechanical exfoliator, containing AHAs and BHAs from glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, and jojoba beads. It has a light citrus aroma that is refreshing at the end of an active day.

If your skin is dry or sensitive, this cleansing gel isn’t the best option for daily use. You might only use it a couple of times a week, or not at all.

 

CHEMICAL EXFOLIATOR FOR SENSITIVE SKIN (and all skin types)

For sensitive skin, I suggest  Revive Exfoliating Serum. This sleek blend of fruit acids is ultra-gentle and designed for daily use. Apply a light layer in the morning after cleansing and leave it on until you cleanse your face in the evening. 2. FAKE YOUR GLOW WITH KLAVUU

I often apply serum and moisturizer underneath the Klavuu Cushion, but when I’m in a rush, I skip serum and moisturizer and apply just the Klavuu Cushion.

The only downside of the Klavuu Cushion is that it only provides coverage for Fitzpatrick Scale skin tones 1 to 3. If your skin tone is darker, or you prefer full coverage, get your glow on with the  Dr. Esthé Rejuvenating PDRN Ampoule. Ampoules are multi-serums that nourish and hydrate. Standard serums only hydrate, so a moisturizing cream must be layered on top.

Tanning Drops

Glowing skin is healthy skin, so you must protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays. As you know, I’m a fan of multitasking products (like the Klavuu Cushion) that promote the skinfication of suncare. These Korean sun care products provide the UV protection you need with powerful reparative actives.

SUNCARE FRIENDLY REMINDERS

I know you understand how UV damage accelerates aging, but here are a few friendly reminders:

  • Minimize peak heat: If you can, plan your summer activities before or after peak heat. This is because the sun’s rays are more intense at midday. If peak heat is when you’ll be outdoors, seek shade and hydrate.
  • Reapply UV protection: When you’re indoors, sunscreen only needs to be reapplied every 4 hours. There are exceptions to this rule. For example, if your desk is positioned in direct sunlight. When outside and in direct sunlight, reapply every 2 hours, and use waterproof formulas when swimming or engaging in intense physical activity.
  • Don’t forget your hands and feet: When applying and reapplying sunscreen, don’t forget your hands and feet! Both areas have thinner skin and prone to direct sunlight, making them more sensitive. This is also why the top of your hands is one of the first places you develop sunspots. Reapply sunscreen to your hands after washing your hands.
  • Wear sunglasses: Yes, they make you look chic, and improve your vision when the sun shines bright, but sunglasses also protect your eyes and the skin around your eyes from UV damage. Also, turn the UV filter on in all your electronic devices to minimize blue light exposure.
  • Lips: Select a lip balm that contains UV protection, especially when in the sun for extended periods of time. Feel free to layer it under your lipstick. Promote cellular repair while nourishing, moisturizing, and plumping your lips with  House of PLLA’s HOP+ Promoter Repair Eye and Lip Cream.
  • Hair and scalp: When your hair is exposed to direct sunlight, wear a hat or apply haircare products with sunscreen. If you (or your child’s hair) is parted, apply sunscreen to the part. Since the scalp doesn’t get much sunlight, it’s highly susceptible to sunburn.
  • Wear protective clothing: All clothing, even light layers, provides some level of UV protection. However,  Ultraviolet Protection Clothing (UPF) garments provide greater protection. And don’t forget to sit in the shade when you can and wear a wide-brim hat. If you have long hair or want to wear a ponytail, explore your options in hats with adjustable ponytail slots.
  • Apply reparative body cream: Most over-the-counter body creams are designed to lock in and restore moisture, but some are formulated with anti-aging ingredients. I suggest applying a reparative body cream for whole-body anti-aging at least a few days a week.   Neogenesis Body Cream is a top pick. HOW TO SOOTHE YOUR SUNBURN? 

Time flies when you’re outside enjoying the summer sun. When sunburns occur, I cool,

5. HYDRATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Achieving healthy and glowing summer skin isn’t just a matter of what you apply topically to your skin, it’s also a reflection of internal hydration and nutrition.

  • Drink about half your body weight in water per day, more when perspiring.
  • In addition to water, consume electrolyte minerals and foods rich in omega fatty acids.
  • Keep dehydrating foods and beverages to a minimum, including salty foods.
  • Limit diuretics, including coffee and other caffeine sources, to 1 or 2 servings a day.
