Summertime is just around the corner, so it's important to know what changes you need to make to your skincare routine. The basics remain the same, like wearing a hat and applying (and reapplying) sunscreen, but to avoid struggling with breakouts or increased risk for sun damage, you'll want to use these five tweaks.
Adjust your moisturizing routine but don't stop moisturizing altogether. Use a little less moisturizer when you apply it to prevent breakouts OR select a moisturizer that isn't so heavy. A product like NeoGenesis Light Moisturizer is ideal for getting the benefits of a high-quality moisturizer but with a little less intensity. Still, don't overapply during the summer.
Lighten up on your cleanser. If you're using a creamy cleanser, switch up to a lighter one (Just Say Ahh or NeoGenesis Cleanser are my faves) to effectively remove sweat, oil, and makeup. Heavy cream cleansers can lead to an increase in breakouts during the summer.
We are prone to brown spots as we get more sun, so NOW is the time to apply Vitamin C REGULARLY. Vitamin C has brightening power and healing components on UV damage. But not all Vitamin C products are created equal! Formulas containing regular ascorbic acid will see about an 80-90% decrease in ascorbic acid content after just six days of opening the product. This means it actually turns into a pro-oxidant instead of an anti-oxidant. That's why I love Triple C+ Gold. It contains an ascorbic acid complex designed to keep ascorbic acid 100% stable over time. By conjugating ascorbic acid to gold, its bioavailability is increased drastically, and glutathione (a vitamin C precursor) helps to replenish ascorbic acid as it's broken down.
Exfoliation becomes even more important in the summer if you have oily skin but don't add it to your routine every day. Increase your exfoliation to a couple of days a week. CBE Botanicals Revive Exfoliating Serum is a gentle way to dissolve the dead skin cells that cause skin to be dull and flakey. Apply Revive Exfoliating Serum right after cleansing to dissolve debris stuck in clogged pores! Revive is a leave-on product. There's no need to rinse!
Keep the second shower shorter and cooler! We are often showering more than once in the summertime, which can be very drying to the skin. Keep that second shower shorter and more on the lukewarm side instead of hot.
Apply these tips to your summer routine, and you'll be all set for great skin!

Take a look at the six signs of unhealthy skin that appear even with a solid skin routine, along with the esthetician-trusted tips to fix them!
One of the most obvious signs of unhealthy skin is a dry, flaky complexion. You might not notice how dry your skin has become as you lather on your favorite moisturizer. But you can definitely tell your skin is in need of moisture after applying makeup like foundation or powder. If your skin peels and flakes by the end of the day, you’re most likely overdue for a good exfoliation session!
Exfoliation is the best way to gently loosen dead skin cells, accelerate skin renewal, and revive dry or flaky skin. I recommend washing with the deep cleaning, foamy CBE Botanicals Scrub Away the Day Cleanser, and following with the Revive Exfoliating Serum once or twice weekly. If your skin is sensitive or dry, try the Enzyme Rescue for a gentle but thorough exfoliation.
