Take a look at the six signs of unhealthy skin that appear even with a solid skin routine, along with the esthetician-trusted tips to fix them!
One of the most obvious signs of unhealthy skin is a dry, flaky complexion. You might not notice how dry your skin has become as you lather on your favorite moisturizer. But you can definitely tell your skin is in need of moisture after applying makeup like foundation or powder. If your skin peels and flakes by the end of the day, you’re most likely overdue for a good exfoliation session!
Exfoliation is the best way to gently loosen dead skin cells, accelerate skin renewal, and revive dry or flaky skin. I recommend washing with the deep cleaning, foamy CBE Botanicals Scrub Away the Day Cleanser, and following with the Revive Exfoliating Serum once or twice weekly. If your skin is sensitive or dry, try the Enzyme Rescue for a gentle but thorough exfoliation.

What makes K-beauty really special is in the formulation and ingredients. I've noticed that many Korean skincare products are cruelty-free, rarely have added fragrances, and often use natural ingredients that aren't well-known in the Western world. Keep reading to learn more about these special ingredients, as well as where to find them in my go-to skincare products.

Key Takeaways:
Do you ever feel like your skin looks a little bit dull or uneven? (Trust me, I know the struggle!) Fortunately, you're not alone — dull skin is a common battle among women of all ages. Whether you're dehydrated or are struggling with uneven skin texture, Korean skin care can help brighten your complexion. Keep reading to learn more about the power of Korean skin care, as well as the ingredients you can use at home to create a bright, glowing skin care routine.
Korean beauty products have become increasingly popular in the United States over the last few years — especially when it comes to skin care. Korean skin care is well-known for being progressive and innovative, and one of its many focuses is brightening the skin. In this case, skin brightening refers to getting rid of dark spots, blotchiness, and hyperpigmentation. The desired result is an even, dewy, amazingly smooth complexion, famously referred to as "glass skin."
There are a variety of products that can help you get this type of hydrated, balanced complexion, many of which contain famously potent Korean skin care ingredients. Korean skin care uses unique ingredients like snail mucin, which is moisturizing and can help boost collagen; mugwort, used to treat inflammation; antioxidant-rich rice water, for an even complexion; and many more!
Ready to get brighter skin at home? Follow these four skin care routine steps to get closer to a glassy, radiant complexion.
One of my favorite Korean skin care products is the House of PLLA Micro Peel, which is packed with poly-l-lactic acid, a favorite ingredient of mine. This at-home peel is made with Centella Asiatica extract, which helps calm and soothe the skin, as well as minimize inflammation and promote healing. Royal jelly is another key ingredient, which stimulates collagen production to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and skin sagging. Plus, it helps brighten dark spots.
When you buy this peel in my shop, it comes with four treatments, meant to be used once a week — so you'll have enough for a month's worth of treatments. After you cleanse your face, apply this micro peel in an even layer over your face and neck, and leave it on for 1-2 minutes. I recommend starting with one minute, then building up to two minutes. You might feel a slight tingle as it gets to work! When the minute is up, rinse with lukewarm water.
Next in your skin care routine, you're going to apply two Dr. Esthé products. First, apply 1-2 pumps of the Dr. Esthé Whitening A Serum. This brightening serum is highly concentrated and includes vitamin C and glutathione (an antioxidant). It also contains niacinamide, a type of vitamin B3 popular in Korean skin care that blocks melanin from going to the skin's surface, helping to prevent pigment formation.
Once you've applied a thin layer of this serum to your face and neck, allow it to soak in before layering on the Anti-Mela Toning Cream, which is a brightening cream that targets hyperpigmentation. It's packed with active ingredients like licorice root extract, glutathione, tranexamic acid, kojic acid, and that Korean favorite niacinamide again. Follow up with an SPF50.
I just think there's something so relaxing and indulgent about a sheet mask... even if you're wearing it while you're getting dinner ready! The Aquasure Solution Fit Mela-Toning Mask is a perfect addition to your new brightening routine, and you'll need to leave it on for just 15 minutes. This powerful mask includes amino acids, antioxidants, niacinamide, and more ingredients to help moisturize your skin, reduce hyperpigmentation and redness, and create an overall brighter skin tone.
Follow this mask with the Dr. Esthé Vita-C Radiance Solution Ampoule, which is made with limon fruit water, vitamins B5, B3, C, and E, and Alpha-Melight, which helps correct dark spots, acne scars, sun spots, and more. Spread it evenly over your face and neck, gently massaging it in. Once it feels absorbed, you can layer on your favorite moisturizer.
If you're doing this brightening routine in the morning, make sure to finish with your favorite sunscreen! Consistent sun protection is a key part of Korean skin care, and it should be part of everyone's morning routine. Right now, I'm loving the Dr Esthé Sun Protection Ultra Repair, which has an SPF of 50. I don't know about you, but I'm spending a lot of time outdoors these days, soaking up summer days by the pool or in my garden, and I want to make sure my skin is protected. (Especially after a brightening treatment!)
Yes, many Korean skincare products are formulated with gentle, soothing ingredients like Centella Asiatica and snail mucin, making them suitable for sensitive skin. However, it's always important to patch-test new products before incorporating them into your routine.
While some immediate brightening effects can be seen after using products like the House of PLLA Micro Peel, achieving a noticeable difference in skin tone and texture typically takes 4-6 weeks of consistent use.
The general rule of thumb is to apply products from thinnest to thickest consistency. Start with cleansing, followed by serums, and ampoules. Finish with moisturizers and SPF during the day. If using a sheet mask, it should be applied after your serum but before your final moisturizer.
Whether you want to reduce the appearance of fine lines or achieve more hydrated skin, Korean ingredients can help you get brighter, plumper, glowier skin. And best of all, you can find all of the products you need right here.
