Learning the anatomy of the face has been one of the most fascinating parts of my career as an Esthetician. In this article, we will explore how you can take steps by using the Vectors of the face to improve your appearance.
Studying how the skin drapes over the face as we age is important. Over the years we lose fat padding, facial bone, and collagen. This creates common areas of facial sagging like jowls and heavy cheeks. However, I found that working the VECTORS (as outlined above) as we use our devices really amps up results.
When we familiarize ourselves with these VECTORS and understand how each makes up the shape of the face, where they are located and how they overlap, we can use that knowledge in our skincare protocols.
Why does this matter?
When we neglect the muscles of the face or something as simple as repeated facial expressions, it results in changes to the face that aren’t always attractive. For example, when the muscles in the forehead are neglected the result can show up as sagging eyelids. Lift the forehead muscles and the eyelids lift. Other times it is sagging skin on cheeks or chin area because the levator labii muscles need toned. When the muscles in the zygomaticus minor/major muscles are neglected the infamous 11s form. Overall, it can manifest as an uneven skin tone from poor circulation, deep wrinkles from overly tight muscles, and all of this results in premature aging.
What can be done?
Intensively study the image I’ve provided. Use your hands and fingers to explore your face. Chances are in the areas you want to improve; you will feel tightness and chances are that is also where you have an undesired wrinkle or two, or loss of facial muscle tone.
You may also feel puffiness just beneath the skin as you examine your face. That could be stuck lymph that needs to be drained from the face. Again, when we neglect to stimulate the muscles of the face, blood flow restriction occurs, as well as poor lymphatic drainage.
Using high tech devices such as the Clareblend Mini Microcurrent or the Time Master Pro Ultrasound, and even a low-tech device like the Anma, using movements as outlined in the above picture can greatly impact the muscles of the face.
Using high-performance skincare products containing scientific formulas that nourish the skin is also an important step to maintaining a more youthful appearance as we age.
It’s a lifetime commitment!
Just as the muscles on our bodies deteriorate if we stop taking care of them, so too will the muscles on our face. Therefore, our work is never done. It is not a matter of using these devices and high-performance skincare products a few weeks and our youth is magically restored. It is a lifetime commitment of doing the work to look great for as long as we can.

What makes K-beauty really special is in the formulation and ingredients. I've noticed that many Korean skincare products are cruelty-free, rarely have added fragrances, and often use natural ingredients that aren't well-known in the Western world. Keep reading to learn more about these special ingredients, as well as where to find them in my go-to skincare products.
